Genealogy Advice
Genealogy is the study of the descents of families and persons from an ancestor or ancestors. As a hobby it can become pleasantly addictive, at least to the person concerned!

When you decide to explore your family history you should start by producing a plan of what you aim to achieve:
- A Family Tree - usually showing your male line ancestors
- An Extended Family Tree - including spouses and distant cousins
- An Ancestry Chart - tracing ancestors through both male and female lines
The easiest place to start your research is with the family you already know about. They will be able to provide you with date and places of births, marriages and deaths as well as certificates, letters, photos and diaries.
All of the information you collect should be documented so that facts aren't forgotten about.

A very good way of finding out more information is to visit a Mormon Centre. Here you can use their facilities and information resources.
It would also be helpful to join your local family history society, where you will find useful journals and people who are willing to share the information they have found.

For more information you should visit some of the sites we recommend, read genealogy and historical books and visit local and national libraries and record offices.
